Alison Lewis is an accomplished jazz singer that has a hauntingly classic and beautiful tone to her vocals. You can’t help but hear influences of classic jazz singers in her music. She has won several awards, toured with a six-women world acapella group and is also a seasoned session singer.
I wanted to hear her album and really get a feel for her music and who she is as a person. It was clear to me that she has a great voice and her new album showcases her vast vocal range. For the design I was immediately inspired by old jazz records. I thought it would be great to do a throwback to albums like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.
The cover features textured elements and text from vinyl records like “Stereo” and “Hi-Res Audio.” The CD has a vinyl record texture and utilizes a full-bleed center ring to bring the vinyl authenticity to full fruition. Though the final design ultimately did not reflect this mock, Alison was very happy with her finished product (see image 3 – client requested version).
September 2016 – Alison’s album “Seven” can now be heard on KJazz 88.1FM. Alison has also been on her 8th week on the CMJ Top 40 Jazz Chart and a 7th week on the RMR Top 50 Jazz Chart. Congratulations Alison!
